Rosy, the bird tearoom again and a dog cafe

What a cool day. Having done nothing but teach and socialise over the last few weeks, I did something odd again today. Our friend Amy introduced us to the dog cafe, Bau House, in Hongdae. It was wonderful. I'll get onto it in a moment.

I finally hung out with Rosy last weekend. We'd been out together but not properly spent any time with each other, so we met in Insa-dong on a rainy Saturday and went to the Old Tearoom with the little finches.

I tried the chrysanthemum tea this time, in this groovy cup.

The weekend has been nice all round. A lazy Saturday ended in a surprise birthday party for a friend. The police turned up but Koreans don't have house parties (and that wasn't the first time the police have come) so any noise attracts problems. It was fun but we didn't stay late as Simon had a massive headache from being punched repeatedly in the chest during Wing Tsun (and I thought that learning a martial art was supposed to prevent that from happening). On Sunday, we finally went back to the Italian place for a gorgeous lunch. We took our friend Amy and met lovely Shira there (who is going to teach me to knit a hat) and took the bus home. It was on the bus that Amy mentioned Bau Hause and suddenly Simon's weekend-long headache magically disappeared and we ended up in Hongdae, cuddling dogs and sipping tea.

Example:
There are lots of dogs who belong to the owner of the cafe and people bring their dogs to the cafe too, so there are puppies and massive dogs and tiny ones. It was brilliant! It was very clean and as soon as a little mess was made, the staff were there with a Wee Mop and some disinfectant.

This one's massive:

Look! Dogs! Dogs on the windowsill!

I like this photo because Amy and the little dog look cute and then you look in the background and see that the fourth person at the table behind isn't a person after all.

Simon liked the massive dog. He was quite cool (the dog, not Simon).

Harro!

This little fellow just appeared between us. He was hiding from a little poodle, whose toy it was.

OK, I got a bit carried away photo-wise but it was so much fun that I wanted to share it with you all.

There was also a lady Amy referred to as 'The Dog Whisperer', who sat in the corner silently, surrounded by dogs. Apparently, she's always there.

We ended the day with some delicious galbi at the place opposite us, which we've since found out is known as 'Galbi Corner'. Yum.

  1. Are you allowed the caption "Harro" while blogging in the Far East? Discuss

  4. Very cute, although a cat cafe (or 'catfe') would ne more my kind of thing.

I had some soup yesterday that smelled EXACTLY like wet dog, but tasted lovely.

    It was pea and ham.

Great blog. A dog blog. A 'dlog'.

    Bye then.

  5. There is a cat cafe! But I've heard it's a bit scary, with cats hanging of the curtains and things. Bau House was cool and my friend has a dog who needs to socialise, so I'm going again this week!

  8. She was talking to them too. I saw her head move. She was definitely alive. I might be going again tonight as Tracy's dog finally had a haircut and she wants him to socialise.

Whatisthis?

Hi! This is my blog for our year long trip to Korea. Yes, I might have set it up to rival Simon's 'Simon and Hannah go to Korea' blog but I will actually post here.

Probably.

Anyway, hello and I hope you enjoy it!
